Earth Day Tie-Dye Event

CCNY Green held their first ever Tie Dye Event in celebration of Earth Day in the quad on Tuesday, April 23rd. Everyone had a lot of fun personalizing their t-shits with tie-dye, even when things got messy! Also, the t-shirts had "100% Clean Energy" on them in order to spread the word about our current campaign to make our campus one day use only clean energy.
A special thanks goes out to Sumra and Laura for going out of their way to plan the event and bring in the materials.
Check out some pictures of the event below. If you have any other cool ideas for events the club should do feel free to post them in the comments!

CCNY Green Hosts a Power Vote Voter Registration Drive

Today's blog was written by our very own VP Sarah Inbar! This post can also be viewed at: http://www.wearepowershift.org/blogs/ccny-green-hosts-power-vote-voter-registration-drive

With today being the last day to register to vote in New York, this past Tuesday, CCNY Green at the City College of New York held a voter registration drive on campus. It was only minutes after we set up our table in the NAC rotunda that people started to stop and ask questions. The combination of our awesome posters and Power Vote schwag along with our outstanding club members drawing people in helped us register 56 people to vote and collect 146 pledges to vote for clean energy!
The event lasted from 11am to 5:30pm, with club members working hour-long shifts throughout the day. During the busiest two hours at lunch, we were all constantly talking to people, answering questions, handing out forms, and collecting pledges. The high energy and enthusiasm shown by so many people to learn more about clean energy and get more involved with our club was so exciting. I registered a few people who came back later in the day with friends to register as well.

People were generally really grateful that we were there to help them and were happy to support us. The Power Vote stickers on our table were a hit with students putting them on their shirts, notebooks, phones, friends, etc. We had some really awesome conversations with students, professors, faculty, and even our school mascot, the CCNY beaver! We also got contact information from several other clubs, like Sustainability Now, an engineering club focusing on clean energy, that want to work on projects together and help us at our future events.

Overall, our day of action was a big success; in addition to registering voters and spreading awareness about clean energy, we made contact with many people who want to get more involved with CCNY Green who have awesome skills and resources to share. Thanks again to everyone who worked at the drive, and of course to all those who came out and signed our pledges! Stay tuned on our facebook page and twitter for more updates soon!

CCNY Green Kick-Off Fall 2012

The CCNY Green Kick-Off Meeting took place on September 27th on a bright and sunny afternoon! Thanks to all of you who could come!

At our first meeting, we were able to gather and brainstorm (see our brainstorming in action below!) some new exciting ideas for this semester. Among them, were ideas for art installations to spread awareness, events/parties to raise funds, and campaigns for composting or sustainable food options and practices in the cafeteria. If you guys have any other ideas, feel free to share them in the comments!

But our first priority, for now, is the upcoming elections. We hope to get people thinking about green initiatives as they vote for their future representatives. In an effort to do so, we will have a voter registration drive from 10:30 to 5:30 on Tuesday, October 9th in the NAC Rotunda.

CCNY Green's First Wrestling Match!

"Why don't we have a wrestling match between a lumberjack and two sumatran tigers?"

For a second, the room was filled with an imaginary cricket sound. But when the image had finally kicked in, the entire group burst into a collective laughter.

Wrestling match between a tiger and a lumberjack....

Genius isn't it?

We thought so too.

Once all the duties were delegated, the CCNY Green group dispersed to hire a lumberjack and CNNY's mascot; the Beaver. Two of our own group members volunteered to dress up as the tigers.
Our tigers with President Lisa and Lumberjack Jack

People started to wonder what the heck were two tigers and a lumberjack doing walking around on campus, blasting "Eye of the Tiger" while having arm wrestling matches. Petitions were signed, support was given, even the cheers were over the top! It definitely helped the tigers and the beaver win over the lumberjack, who then decided to have one last match in the NAC rotunda.

Guess who won!? (Though, I think it's pretty obvious isn't it?)

The tigers!!!!! Yeah!!! The Beaver too of course!! He helped a bunch!

With the effort put in by all our group members, even random people on campus, we definitely reached our goal of making people more aware of our cause.

The wrestling matches were a great success, and we hope to have more event like this in the future; so watch out and stayed tuned!
